Scanner Problems

· Kiwi on July 04 2017

Major problems reared their ugly head today when I went to scan a new issue of Computer Games for the site.

Dust has somehow attached itself to the bottom optics of the FI-5650c and the result is unsightly lines on the resulting scanned images. This dust is INSIDE the optics so cannot easily be removed. I'd had problems from the day I received the unit with the upper optics having this problem so for the last 18 months I've been scanning one side at a time using the bottom optics which halves the speed scanning a magazine.

*** UPDATE ***

Seeing as the scanner was all but useless I decided to take a screwdriver to the thing and after a bit of tinkering I managed to remove the bottom optic unit. Man oh man!! ...was it dirty!! I used an ear bud with Isopropyl alcohol to carefully clean the inside of the glass and the resulting scans are actually better than ever. Now if I could only figure out how to remove the top optics. Oh for a tear down manual .....
